Chapter 17

Tamara sat on her brother’s bed with his laptop opened in front of her going through files on his laptop. There has got to be something on this damn computer that can point me in the direction of where Iris stays or who the bitch is that had him so damn open, she internally said to herself. She had been glued in front of the laptop for over an hour and every screen she clicked on yielded the same results to her. Nothing. Just as she was getting ready to give up she looked up and saw the keys to one of his cars sitting on the dresser staring directly at her. The car he had been driving the night he had disappeared had been found stripped of its doors, radio, tires and GPS but she was hoping that the GPS’ that was in his Mercedes that was parked out in the driveway was intact. Hopping up off the bed with urgency she snatched the keys off the dresser, slid her feet into a pair of Adidas flip flops and hurried out the backdoor.

Hitting the alarm on the key ring the doors automatically unlocked and she slid into the front seat in record time. Tapping a few buttons on his GPS it cut on and she began going through the addresses he had stored. There were only five addresses he had saved and she knew all but two of them. One of them he had saved under the name “LOVE” and the other was simply saved as “IRIS”. With Iris being the first name on her hit list she pulled up her information and prepared to pay her a visit. Tamara leaned over the center console and checked Riq’s glove box for his trusty nine millimeter. Once she saw the beautiful chrome staring back up at her she checked to make sure it had bullets and then sat the firearm in her lap as she strapped on her seatbelt and then pulled out of the driveway.

Pulling onto Iris' street Tamara did a slow creep until she found her address. From the curb she saw a note posted on the front door and no car parked outside. Circling the block two more times she parked three doors down from the house and made sure the coast was clear before getting out of the car and tucking the nine millimeter under her shirt with the safety off. Reading the note plastered on the front door she saw that it was an eviction notice citing nonpayment of rent. Snatching the notice off the door, Tamara snatched a bobby pin out of her head and quickly jimmied the lock until the door slowly crept open. Since Iris never bothered to invest in ADT security luck was clearly on Tamara’s side as she intruded into the apartment. No sooner than she closed the front door, she drew the nine from her pants and got a steady grip on it just in case someone peered from around the corner.
